Sacramento Motorcycle Accidents
Supersport bikes are racing bikes that have been adapted for use on the highway. These bikes are lightweight and built for speed. They also tend to be very popular with younger riders (under the age of 30).
Research from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has shown that supersport motorcycle riders have death rates that are four times greater than average for all motorcycle types. In addition, the Highway Loss Data Institute (HLDI) shows that supersport motorcycles have the worst overall insurance loss, when compared to other types of bikes. This is because these bikes are created for speed and have significantly more horsepower per pound that a standard or cruiser motorcycle. The IIHS notes that supersport bikes account for less than 10 percent of registered motorcycles, but are responsible for more than a quarter of all rider deaths.
Research also shows that many accidents and deaths are due to the fact that drivers are more likely to speed on supersport bikes. Additional
motorcycle accidents may be due to the motorcyclist’s error. Driver error and speeding tend to be a greater factor in fatal crashes when supersport bikes are involved.
